things i'm grateful for: road trip! (bavaria)

we were back in the bavarian region.

we stopped by at this magnificent church called basilika vierzehnheiligen or the basilica of the fourteen holy helpers in the town of bad staffelstein.

the interiors were really grand!

the church is dedicated to the fourteen holy helpers, a group of saints venerated together at the time of the black death in germany.

i hope i won't dream of saint denis, holding his head.kinda scary, no?

he was bishop of paris in the third century and he was martyred with the persecution of christians. after his beheading, he is said to have picked up his head and walked ten kilometres, preaching a sermon the entire way.

oh.ok.

shall we move on?

they also have their own brewery so mr t was able to get a few bottles for opa!

bad staffelstein is a beautiful spa town.too bad we did not have the luxury of time.

we continued on and reached bamberg, a beautiful medieval town!

we were famished at this time so we took a breather and just...enjoyed and relished the fresh bavarian air.

and a li'l trivia which we just found out recently...the latest film version of "the three musketeers" was shot in bamberg!

bamberg is one of the few cities in germany that was not destroyed by world war 2 bombings.

it's so pretty-yyyyy

old town hall built in 1386 in the middle of the regnitz river, accessible by two bridges

klein-venedig ("little venice"), a colony of fishermen's houses from the 19th century along one side of the river regnitz

picturesque!

as medieval as it gets

can you believe that this pharmacy was existing since medieval times??

bamberg's dom - breathtaking!

bamberg will always hold a special place for mr t and i as this was where we got caught in a terrible thunderstorm...

...in a treehouse...

...in a children's park...

how did we get there in the first place?

well, after visiting the cathedal, we decided to just follow one of the cobbled roads that will take us back to the city centre.

it started to drizzle so we thought, hey, there's a children's park nearby.why don't we sit on one of the benches and just wait there for a bit? it's just a drizzle after all.

so we sat on a bench in an empty park, shaded by a huge tree.

drizzle.drizzle.

fine.we were not getting wet.

we just amused ourselves by reading the baby books that we bought for baby.

drop.DROP.drop.DROP.

the raindrops were getting fatter by the minute.

then we saw the treehouse.

so we thought, hey, there's a treehouse nearby.why don't we sit climb and just wait there for a bit? it's just rain after all.

well, bloody hell.

it turned out to be a thunderstorm.

we got stuck there for two hours, i think.

just imagine it - a (really small) treehouse with two full-grown adults inside.

this was the view from "our" treehouse.

if we were in a movie, we would probably be making out already (haha!)

but sorry to disappoint you.

we started playing children's games and singing children's songs.we were in a kids' park, after all.

then we got bored.

we started counting the time difference between each thunder.

then we got bored.

we started making up stories about the birds that were taking refuge in the trees and under the playhouse.

yes, we were that bored.

we listened to each toll that the churchbell chimed.

then we started plotting on how to snatch umbrellas from the walking passers-by or on how to hold-up the cyclists who are so oh, warmly wrapped in their raincoats.

then mr t started jogging in circles around the treehouse.while i was trying to do some salsa steps.

we were getting desperate.

mr t was dreaming of gelato while i was dreaming of the umbrellas and jumpers that we very conveniently left in the car.

suddenly the skies opened and cleared up.

unfortunately, i could not get down the freakin' treehouse.i was wearing a short white skirt which i did not want to get soiled.and getting down required some agility.

finally we were back on the cobbled roads.

i tell you, if you want to know if you can spend a lifetime with a person, try getting stuck in a treehouse in a thunderstorm in bamberg.

a hilarity.but still a life-opener.

oh how i love remembering that treehouse event.mr t, just to let you know, i would get stuck in a treehouse with you anywhere in the world, anytime, thunderstorm or no thunderstorm!

you think it would stop us from exploring more of bamberg, huh.

nope.

we went to a hill to see a bird's eyeview of the city.

hey bamberg, you were a revelation.

thanks for that nutty episode in the treehouse.

friggin' hilarious now, come think of it...

finally...back to munich...next!
