things i'm grateful for: road trip! (toscana)

florence is the capital and most populated city in tuscany.it is, in my humble opinion, one of the most beautiful historical cities in the world.

it is just not a place to be with a toddler.baby got overwhelmed with the number of tourists swarming the tourist spots.she was screaming and was just...uncomfortable.

we wanted to come back someday.just to go to museums and marvel at all these...art.

it was so overwhelming, actually.you almost feel dizzy from just looking at one single art piece.

anyway, we went first to one of the highest points in florence to get a feel of the city.

overwhelming.

basilica di santa maria del fiore (florence cathedral or "duomo")

and the ponte vecchio (old bridge) from afar

we bought one of these sunflower fields paintings as it's the only art in florence that we can afford! harhar.

it's already placed nicely in one of our nooks in the bedroom.

and everytime i look at it my heart just swells.

i love tuscany so much.

a replica of michaelangelo's david.

we then walked back towards the city centre and passed by the river arno surrounded by old buildings.

we just kept on walking until we reached ponte vecchio itself.

and that's when something happened...

we were taking a break from our long walk and just browsing at tourist traps like this shop selling venetian masks...

...when mr t just felt something sticky and wet hit his head.

it was a pigeon's poop!

of course he was so disgusted.

but i was so excited.

i've watched "under the tuscan sun" so many times already that i know in italy being pooped on by a bird signifies good luck.

i secretly wished it could have been me - you know, the one being pooped on by a bird.i hope mr t will share his good luck with me too.heehee.

views from the bridge

it was just so crowded in that area.it was so full of jewelry and gold shops.

we were all getting angsty.so we had a mini-break and "hid" in one of the buildings and ate pizza.

finally sated, we walked again and reached palazzo vecchio, the town hall of florence.

inside are remarkable art pieces.

it's even breathtaking outside, as the town hall overlooks the piazza della signoria.

i was enamored with the fountain of neptune.

a pinocchio shop!

basilica di santa croce - the burial place of michaelangelo and galileo.

then she appeared...

the duomo

giotto's campanile - part of the cathedral complex

baptistery - the italian poet dante alighieri was baptized here

it was just so beautiful, we just had to get a breather.

we passed by santa maria novella

and saw a gelateria!

what a treat to end our florence trip.

one day is not enough to marvel at this glorious city.i don't think a lifetime is.

we took the twenty-minute train ride back to signa.

and had a lovely dinner at ristorante tre corone where baby charmed the italian waiters and guests.this is located in our hotel.we had to do a 5-minute walk in order to reach it.it is located underneath the stairs leading to borgo villa castelleti.

charming beyond words.

our last day in tuscany...next...(can you spell s-a-d?)
