al ain

i've always been blogging about dubai and other cities in the world.let me blog about somewhere close, about other cities in the uae.

al ain is a city in abu dhabi and it's well known as the "garden city" because of its vast greenery and oases.

mr t and i went there for a day visit in 2009.the place looked so serene and fresh...and yes there were lots of trees and flowers.

we went to a museum and saw emiratis doing the traditional local dance.

we also went to the sheikh zayed palace museum.fyi, sheikh zayed is revered
in the uae as the "father of the nation." he was the first president of the uae who basically transformed the country to what it is now today.so in a way, we are thankful for him for opening up his country to expats like us.

sheikh zayed was born in al ain and this is also the place with the highest number of emiratis (according to my friend wikipedia)

we also drove uphill to get a view of the city

and i almost got scared out of my wits when we saw this rather old building with only one window brightly lit with a display...of mannequins wearing wedding gowns.that was really eerie.

anyway, the day was so short.we left al ain feeling refreshed, however.we passed by a beautifully-lit mosque on the way out of the city, and we could not help but be awe of this country with so much diversity.
