Some of Nora Ephron's Her Best Lines

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nora Ephron's characters were highly verbal and hyper-analytical. They had a head for the absurd and a heart for romance. But above all, they were funny.

The big New Year's Eve speech Crystal delivers to Ryan at the end of "When Harry Met Sally ...." This is vintage Ephron in a nutshell.

"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

From 1998's "You've Got Mail," which Ephron wrote and directed, when Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are walking through a farmer's market ruling out the people they won't date.

Hanks: "I could never be with someone who likes Joni Mitchell. 'It's clouds illusions I recall/I really don't know clouds at all.' What does that mean? Is she a pilot? Is she taking flying lessons? It must be a metaphor for something but I don't know what it is."

The last lines of "You've Got Mail," after all the gesturing and posturing, the sabotage and mistaken identity, they meet in Riverside Park and Ryan finally realizes that Hanks has been her secret email pal all along.
Hanks: "Don't cry, Shopgirl. Don't cry."
Ryan: "I wanted it to be you. I wanted it to be you so badly."

From 1993's "Sleepless in Seattle," which Ephron also wrote and directed. Tom Hanks' son has called into a late-night talk radio show for him. As he explains what was so special about his late wife, Ryan is listening in her car across the country.

"Well, how long is your program? Well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they just meant we were supposed to be together. And I knew it. And I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home, only to no home I'd ever known. I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like ... magic.

the burj khalifa scenes were amazing! mr t and i wondered how could we possibly cope if we had sandstorm of that proportion?? and say what you want about tommy boy, i still think he looks good for his age considering he's already in his 50s!

movies

i was just telling mr t, that probably, deep in our hearts, we secretly adore crappy movies. everytime we try to decide to watch a movie, we always end up watching sh**ty, b movies.sometimes the movie that we want to watch is not yet released or is not shown here.sometimes the timing just does not match with our schedule, etc. etc.

so tonight, instead of watching the latest in the "pirates of the carribean" series, we ended up watching "hangover 2." it did not help that we haven't seen "hangover 1." but it helped that we were seated in "premier business class" seats.yes, we seriously paid good money to sit on reclining seats with blanket and pillow services (plus your food gets delivered to your seat!) to watch a bad movie.

so my husband and i decided to take a walk along the marina as we had to do some errands anyway.i was pleasantly surprised that it was not as hot as i thought it would be.

this was our view, and no, that's not our car.haha.

after 154 years, we were finally able to watch "inception." i'm still in "limbo," to be quite honest.i think i have to watch that movie about ten times before i could come out with my own analysis.i still think it was fantastic.

31 Photos in 31 Days: Day 7

We took baby to the beach and she got in the water for the first time. She seemed confused.Haha.She did not look upset, but she did not look ecstatic either.Somewhere in between lang.

I have a thing with baby feet, especially ones that are covered in sand.

You have all seen satc2, right? they were supposed to be in abu dhabi and staying in a luxurious hotel. in reality, abu dhabi did not allow them to shoot in the city, and they had to make do with morocco as the location for the shoot.

the hotel that the satc girls were supposed to be billeted in is the emirates palace, and experiencing a day of luxury in this hotel is enough to make me want to work the bejesus out of me so I can be rich someday and so check-in there anytime i want to.hush.a girl can dream, ok?!

emirates palace hotel (swiped this photo off from the net)

upon check-in, they provide female guests with roses. a lady staff accompanied us all the way to our room (east wing) and explained how to navigate our way in the hotel.this place is huge so for somebody as direction-clueless as me, I would have needed a map.

there was a butler assigned in each room.ya, haha.there was a butler.we did not make use of him though 'cos we did not know what to ask.haha.clueless! it was the first and last time we saw him.although we could have requested for another kind of pillow 'cos the hotel is offering seven kinds of pillow to choose from.well, i got overwhelmed with the choices that we just stuck with what we had which was heavenly as well.

the room was superb, and of course, everything that can be adorned/painted in gold is adorned/painted in gold.we had the room with the city view. the tv was huge and they had this fancy remote where you can basically control everything.of course, i had to take lotsa photos.

their hallways look like this

and the hall ceilings look like this

we then went to the beach that is exclusive for hotel guests.they have two pools, one pool caters for family with kids and one pool caters for singletons, couples, business travellers, etc.i did not swim, though.i just stayed in the jacuzzi.

we went to hakkasan for our anniversary dinner.it's a modern chinese restaurant which is also located at the emirates palace and it offers the best chinese food i've ever tasted! (well, outside of china,at least. we went to a random restaurant while we were in beijing two years ago and it was excellent. but i digress).

we had dimsum (best dimsum ever) and hot & sour soup.for the main course we had duck, red snapper, mullet and rice.we had oolong tea afterwards.

hay naku, decadence, opulence, lahat na meron sa emirates palace.we had a blast! fun times.

Babies!

i wanna watch this film called "Babies" (also known as Bebe). See link. Oprah has endorsed it, and anything that Oprah endorses, I follow.Yes, I'm gullible that way.Anyway, this is a French documentary film that follows four infants from birth until they are about a year old. They follow babies from Namibia, Japan, Mongolia and the U.S. How cool is that?

If I were not a mom myself, I don't think I would bother. But I think this is just so cute, and it would be a nice DVD gift to a new mom or mom-to-be.
