day 3: exploring the city
so on the next day, we went to the plaka again, to where our ascent to the acropolis would commence.
we passed by a church
and this artist
i could not remember if the climb was tiring or not.maybe it was not 'cos if it was i would have remembered every pebble hurting my toes!
when you enter the site, you are greeted with these views
the temple of athena nike was under renovation (as most of the temples there, anyway!)
then, the popular one loomed...
the parthenon is the largest temple on the acropolis.it was dedicated to the city, athena.it was then converted to a church, then to a mosque.how fascinating.
the erectheion - i love the porch.it's called the "porch of the maidens"
views from the acropolis
i like the greek flag
we headed down to the plaka, and we passed by interesting little pathways and doors
anf if you're tired and weary, ice cream will do the trick! we had this yummy cold treat while waiting for n who will drive us off somewhere again.
the aegean sea! the aegean sea!
we were headed to this place called cape sounion where the temple of poseidon is located
poseidon!
we watched the sunset over the aegean sea, while drinking greek coffee.spectacular, i'm telling you!
then we drove back to the city and passed by a local grocery shop where n shopped for us and treated us with jars of olives and cans of olive oil.my favorites are the olives stuffed with almonds! thanks my dearest n!
mr t and i were so exhausted, but it did not stop us from going out for dinner. we tried in vain to look for this restaurant that mr t had seen the previous day, but we could not find it. so we settled in a tavern populated by greeks.
we had these:
greek salad for me and seafood for mr t
moussaka with zucchini
ayayay.nostimos! (delicious!)
next: bye-bye, athens
