things i'm grateful for: together in athens

day 2: exploring the city

thank god our hotel was located near a tram station.me and public transport, we're not exactly the best of friends.i don't think you can blame me.we don't exactly have the best transport system in the philippines.i only know how to ride jeepneys, buses and tricycles.systems that don't follow any specified schedule.you just wait in a "kanto" (street corner) and pray that a tricycle would come.i didn't take the lrt in manila 'cos it was notorious for pickpockets and smelly cabins.i had to rely on friends who had their own cars to pick me up.a habit which followed me until dubai.

i had to rely on mr t to take us around athens, 'cos he and public transport system are the best of friends. we took the tram and went to the syntagma square.

we saw a parade, a parade, a parade.it was funny 'cos there were dogs all over, and the participants did not seem to mind.we did not know what the parade was all about.there was a grand-looking hotel appropriately called grande bretagne hotel nearby.

the parliament building

guards guarding the parliament.nice uniform :-)

we then walked going towards the plaka.

the plaka is a charming district at the foot of the acropolis.it's full of cafes, restaurants and shops.

we decided to eat at this restaurant.bad idea.our order took so long that i got so cranky.we went back to our hotel.mr t then went out on his own.and these were the places i missed seeing.silly me for being in a bad mood!

athens olympic sports complex.athens hosted the 2004 summer olympics games*

my friend n took us out for dinner.now this was one of the fun parts of the trip.i thought he would take us out to plaka where all the restaurants seem to be at.but no.he drove around athens, and took us out to a tiny restaurant in one of athens's small roads.we knew it was good as all the diners were locals.everyone was talking excitedly in greek.n knew the waiters, and he even knew the fishermen who caught these fish served on our table.how cool.don't these food just remind you of a very "probinsyano" filipino lunch??

i forgot what the dessert was.i just remember that it was so tasty!

what a delightful dinner.n was a very good host and he made sure my husband and i enjoyed every bit of the meal.thank you so much!

next: acropolis and more of athens!
