things i'm grateful for: christmas 2011

we left for germany on the 21st of december armed with wolly hats, jumpers, gloves and really thick coats. i was kinda giddy at this point as i was excited for baby who will see her first snow. at that time, most of europe was not experiencing any heavy snowfall so i really prayed hard for some kind of snowfall, at least.a light one will do as long as baby feels and sees it.
we were picked up by opa, and as soon as we got out of the airport there was already a trickle of snowfall! danke, i thought. baby slept in the car so she did not really see the snow hitting the windshield.i was excited as well as it was only my third or fourth time to experience snowfall!
we arrived at oma and opa's house, and we were  greeted by their gleaming, white garden.look at the birdhouse! how cute is that??

oh wow.

baby was just staring.as in really staring.she was probably thinking - where's the sand?!? lol. mr t then took a handful of snow and rolled it into a ball and placed it on a plate.baby gingerly touched it, and the t family started to teach her the german word for it - schnee.see, i'm learning as well.

oma and opa said that it was the first time that they have this kind of snow in days so they suggested to go to the nearby playground.
so we bundled up and off we went! baby sat on a red toboggan sledge while opa pulled it.
this was how the playground and its surroundings looked like covered in snow.i was amazed.

just for a point of comparison - this is how the playground looks like during summer.

amazeballs!

this dog must be in heaven.

look at him run! i wonder what his name is? i'm sure it's not tagpi.hahaha.

we tried to build a snowman, but baby kept on pushing it.so we failed in building our first ever snowman.

she refused to wear gloves so she was basically screaming afterwards that she was "cold!"

we climbed the hill next to the playground to see if baby would like to sleigh down.of course she resisted.oma was able to convince me to try it.i was a bit hesitant and shy as i was the only adult there trying to toboggan down.there was a bunch of five to twelve year old kids having fun doing it.but tell somebody who has only seen first snow in her twenties to go down a tiny hill with a sleigh, and i betcha that you will be met with a lot of hesitation and wide-eyed looks.

so anyway, i did it.it was, um, ok.not really that ok to make me want to do it a lot of times.

we were already freezing at this time, and so we walked back home.mr t and baby made snow angels in the garden.afterwards, we settled down in front of the fireplace.

bliss, i tell you.

next...wien, baby!
